At the 2014 Wyoming Council of Catholic Women’s convention, WCCW President Angie Malitzo presented Sr. Yvette with the Mary’s Fund, a check for $15,295.27. This donation was the result of a year of bake sales, rummage sales and special events that the Catholic Women of Wyoming held to earn the money for their Mary’s Fund.  The final Mary’s Fund total was $15,701 after additional donations were tallied.

The Mary’s Fund will be used for the Preparation for Independent Living Program at the Refuge. The amount is approximately enough money for thirteen young mothers take part in the program. When they graduate from the program they will know how to manage their money by budgeting and saving what they earn, and will qualify for subsidized housing. A job, a stable home and earnings in the bank will give them hope and confidence in their future success when they leave the Refuge.

We were blessed with other surprises. One WCCW chapter knitted sixty caps for the babies in Chile.

Another WCCW Youth Group Leader encouraged her students to write and send lovely notes of encouragement and promises of prayer to the young mothers who were touched that youth their own age in the United States cared about them.
