Ongoing Projects: Realities and Dreams

The Merciful Love Connection continues to provide necessities:

 

• School uniforms and school supplies so that the young mothers can attend school.
• An emergency fund for the young mothers’ health care needs.
• Funding for Buen Trata, a University of Santiago program that is already showing signs of breaking the cycle of neglect and violence.
• Welcome Packages that provide necessities such as a toothbrush, towel and a change of clothing.
• The Christian Values course.
• Repairs to the chapel, bell tower and Refuge wall from the 2010 earthquake.

As for the dreams, in collaboration with Sister Mari and the Refuge staff, we are working on them too. They include:

 

• Offering a Money 101 course that will help the young mothers learn how to open a personal bank account, balance a checkbook, prepare a budget, and save money. The Merciful Love Connection hopes to offer a $200 check (A Parachute Fund) to the young mothers who complete the money management course for use as an emergency financial cushion in preparation for leaving the refuge.
• Adopting QuickBooks or a similar program for efficient and accurate financial administration of the refuge
• Continuing the job skills programs, school tutors, and the welcome package tradition
• Buying seven new, basic computers for the jobs training program, including one for the Refuge secretary

Thanks to our donors, the young mothers are finding their strength.
