The Merciful Love Connection plans stratigically while acting on immediate issues. In our first year , The Merciful Love Connection has provided the refuge with over 99% of the education funding and roughly 67% of the facilities maintence. In 2006 and 2007 MLC plans to increase it's support of facilities maintence to 86%. This investment in the future not only will address more of the unmet need by increasing capacity by 20%, but also, by 2008, the cost to support each person to decrease by more than 10%.

Laundry at the Refuge
The Merciful Love Connection needs your help to rebuild the laundry for these mothers in need. Built in 1927 with cement sinks, the mothers us a scrub brush and board There is no heat in the winter and the rafters expose the tin roof. The electricity is in a dangerous state of disrepair. There is only cold water. During the winter the mothers periodically suffer colds and bronchitis.

Sidewalk at the Refuge
The Merciful Love Connection needs your help to construct a sidewalk for the Refuge. A common hallway connects the cottages with the nursery and the old building. These cottages finish a quadrangle that forms a courtyard. In order to get to the common dining room or the main walkway, the mothers have to go all the way around through the old building or walk across the courtyard. The ground is uneven and several mothers and staff have fallen. The winter brings torrential rain. The ground turns into a sea of mud, making it even more dangerous.

The new director of the Refuge, Sister Mary Farias, will be helped by MLC to attend college classes for administration

Major Remodel for Refuge
In 2002 after 75 years in the dark and crowded original building, the mothers moved into the new cottages. The new cottages are light and have a family atmosphere. The mothers live very simply. They do not have central heating. A bottled gas stove warms the rooms.

Historical: Facilities: Cottage remodel
Housing update for the Refuge
In 2005 the cottages were badly in need of paint. The mothers put their pictures and things on the wall and when they removed them, the paint came too. With raw materials from a local home center, Sr Mary made bulletin boards where the mothers can put whatever they want, without damaging the walls. In addition, a new media center, an upgraded computer program, and a computer practice room were set up. Each cottage also got new matching bedspreads.
