MLC: Success Stories: Refuge

Filomena and Alvaro

I found out about the Refuge from my aunt. She brought me here the 12 of March 2000. I was 51/2 months pregnant. I was 17 and had only finished my basic education.

Here at the refuge they all helped me the Aunts and the Sisters. I was given emotional, economical help and love and understanding. They also gave me the opportunity to finish my high school.

In March of 2004 I had to leave the Refuge and be separated from my boy because I did not have a place to live. I went to work in a house as a live in servant and my boy I put in Hogar de Cristo (a children’s home). The separation was very painful.

In 2005 without work, I came back to the Refuge in search of employment. Mother Edith again gave me the opportunity to live and work in the Refuge if I would promise to study in an institute. This year I am able to be with my son.
